Description

If you are interested in becoming a clinical or health psychologist, then why not get a taster of what it is like to train as one in practice?

Volunteers would be co-facilitating intervention sessions and workshops with adults with mild-moderate learning disabilities to promote healthier lifestyles to users under direction of a trainee health psychologist with several years experience with this client group.
They would also be helping to run staff training workshops with support workers in the organisation to help them support service users more effectively.
This also involves helping with assessment and gathering feedback from users, and reflecting on their own learning and development.
There may be further opportunities in social marketing of health messages and writing for publication.

This opportunity will assist you in gaining the following skills:

  • Interpersonal/Confidence
  • Planning/Organising
  • Analytical/Research

Training will be provided by the organisation for this position:

Volunteers will be given one day training and induction into the organisation before taking part in any activities with service users or staff.

Part of that would be specific to the activities they take part in, with a summary of what would be involved, wider scope of the health promotion work to place it in context and activities that will follow.

Volunteers would also get opportunities to debrief after helping in sessions for reflective practice (10-15 minutes).
