Location Training will take place at City, University of London Northampton Square London EC1V 0HB Meetings with the visually impaired person will take place at mutually convenient public locations, which should be easy for the volunteer and their buddy to access.
Description

Could YOU help someone with a visual impairment?
Would you like to take part in a study looking at how to make mobile electronic devices (MED) accessible to people with a visual impairment?
We are looking for ‘student buddies’ to meet up with a visually impaired partner on a regular basis for a period of 6 months. Some of them will have recently bought a MED, others will not – depending on which group your partner falls into, you will either offer them support with using their device, or provide them with an opportunity to socialise and take part in activities they enjoy.

You will receive training in visual impairment awareness and use of mobile devices for people with visual impairment. At the beginning and end of the study we will ask you to complete a telephone questionnaire about your experience of volunteering as a buddy.

This opportunity will assist you in gaining the following skills:

  • Problem solving/Creativity

Training will be provided by the organisation for this position:

Training will be provided in visual impairment awareness and in the use of mobile electronic devices (smartphones or tablets) for visually impaired people.
